The most annoying thing that I can think of right now is how
most of the police officers in the Duluth area abuse their power and take the
law into their own hands. Sense I got my license I have been pulled over more
times than I can count, well I lost track around 20 or so times. I know that
this is WAY more times than the average person does in their whole life, and I’m
not going to lie; I am asking for it some of the times but for the most part I feel
that I am just getting pulled over because I fit the profile. To me it’s bad
enough that I speed and drive like a dumb kid and get tickets for this but the
part that really grinds my gears is when I get picked up for going 2-4mph over
the limit and the officer comes up to my window and asks if I know why I got
pulled over. I of coarse say “no officer I do not” (thinking that it’s definitely
not because I was SPEEDING) then the officer will say that “I must be on drugs”
or “I smell alcohol” and tells me that the reason that I don’t know why I got
pulled over is because I must be drunk and high. I mean really? Do you think
that is necessary? What happened to the days where the cop just gives you the
ticket and leaves? From my experiences 4 out of 5 times I encounter a police
officer in my home city they need to make some sort of statement to show that
they are in control and there is nothing I can do.
The part that makes me laugh is how a police officer can,
speed, talk on the phone, run stop signs/lights, or even surf YouTube while
driving down the road. And NOBODY will do anything at all about it. Everyone sees
it but nobody reports them. Heaven forbid I switch the radio station. I personally
have seen a cop almost get in two accidents and also come inches from running
over a kid all while looking at his laptop. I don’t think he even knows it, all
he cares about is if the guy who’s bumper he’s ridding paid for tabs this year
or not. I’m getting a ticket for everything I do nowadays and I just don’t think
it’s fair to be picked on by the ones sworn to protect us.
I don’t like how the police make everyone out to be a
criminal. I would love to say it’s just me… there is very few people who I can
ask that have been happy to get pulled over by a police officer to keep them
safe. Why can’t the police protect us more than they threaten our youth? I apologize
to all you who are close to a police officer. These are just my experiences with
the majority of the cops I have dealt with, and I feel something needs to be
done before this type of behavior gets worse. I have meet good cops too.
You make some good points, as often police officers seem very random in the stops they make. They also seem to really enjoy the power differential and making those in the cars feel as though they've just held up a bank.
ReplyDeleteWhen you note that "To me it’s bad enough that I speed and drive like a dumb kid and get tickets for this," though, you undermine your argument, as, well, if you're speeding and driving like a dumb kid, then you should get a ticket.
Also, you have A LOT of grammar errors here, so really take some time to proofread and even put your text into Word and pay attention to the grammar flags it gives you. Finally, in a blog post, it's best to have shorter paragraphs with spaces between them. Readers like easily digestible chunks of information!
I've met mostly nice cops but I have heard horror stories. They usually have a big head but that comes with the power of being able to get someone into trouble. It does humble some though. I like you're post because it wasn't much of a rant but definitely shows your annoyance and frustration. Great job!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with you that some cops do over use their power in certain instances, the fact that since you pulled over 20 times since you got your license it sounds like you should rethink how you drive, your not only endangering yourself, but worse everyone around you as well. Driving is a privilege and you need to treat it with more diligence. The fact of them riding cars to run their plates can be annoying but don't you like the piece of mind that if that car was stolen or if that person had a warrant out for their arrest that they get those people behind bars?
